1. Who We Are

Your Life In Books PTY LTD ("Your Life In Books", "we", "us", "our") is an Australian company providing an AI-assisted storytelling and publishing platform. Our registered office is in Australia. For privacy enquiries, contact us at privacy@yourstory.com.au.

2. What Data We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

• Name, email address and account credentials when you register
• Story content, interview responses and personal narratives you submit during the story-building process
• Payment information (processed securely by our payment provider — we do not store card details)
• Communications with our agents and customer service team
• Optional: access to LinkedIn and Facebook public profile data (with your explicit consent)

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Device type, browser, IP address and general location
• Pages visited, time on site and interaction data
• Reading activity within the library (books opened, time spent, downloads)

2.3 Information from Third Parties

With your explicit consent, we may access publicly available social media profile information (LinkedIn, Facebook) solely for the purpose of informing your story draft. This data is not used for any other purpose and is not sold.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To build, draft and publish your story as instructed by you
• To provide access to our library, community and events
• To process payments and manage your account
• To send newsletters and platform updates (with your consent)
• To improve our AI agents and platform through aggregated, anonymised data
• To comply with legal obligations

4. Your Story Content & IP

The content of your story — your narrative, memories and personal history — belongs to you. Your Life In Books PTY LTD does not claim ownership of your content. We hold it securely to provide you with the service and, where you choose to publish, to make it available in the library under the terms you select.

We do not use your personal story content to train AI models — ever. Not by us, and not by our technology providers. Our AI agents are powered by the Anthropic Claude API. Anthropic does not train its models on data submitted through the API by default. Your story is not feeding anyone's model.

5. How AI Processes Your Story

We use AI agents at several stages of the story-building process. Here is exactly how your data moves through them:

• Raw data is never sent to AI models. If you upload photos or connect a social media account, that raw data is immediately converted into a structured summary (we call it a Structured Life Profile, or SLP) on our servers. The raw files are deleted immediately after processing. Only the structured summary is ever sent to an AI agent.
• Your interview is private. What you tell Ash — our interview agent — stays within our platform. The transcript is encrypted and only used to generate your story draft. It is not shared with any third party for any other purpose.
• AI agents see only what they need. Each agent receives only the information relevant to its task. No single agent sees your entire data profile unless that is necessary to write your story.
• World context searches are anonymous. When we search the web for historical or geographic context (places you mentioned, events you lived through), those queries contain no personal information — only place names and time periods.

6. Library Publication

Publishing your story in the Your Life In Books library is entirely optional. If you choose to publish, the following applies:

• You will be asked to give explicit consent at the point of publication — separate from your general account agreement. This cannot be pre-ticked or assumed.
• Your consent confirms that: the story is yours to publish; you accept responsibility for its content under our Terms of Service; and you grant Your Life In Books a non-exclusive licence to host and display it.
• You may request removal of your published story at any time. Removal from the library will be completed within 30 days of your request.
• Readers who have downloaded your story prior to removal retain their personal copy. We cannot retrieve data already in readers' possession.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:

• Trusted service providers who help us operate the platform (cloud hosting, payment processing, email delivery) — under strict data processing agreements
• Human Touch writers you engage — limited to the story content you authorise them to access, and only after they have agreed to our confidentiality terms
• Law enforcement or regulators when legally required to do so

We do not share your story content with any third party for marketing, research or commercial purposes without your explicit consent.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Your story content — interviews, drafts and published chapters — is retained to provide you with the service and, where published, to maintain your place in the library.

You can delete everything. If you close your account, you can request full deletion of all personal data including your interview transcript, Structured Life Profile, chapter drafts, cover art and library listing. We will complete deletion within 30 days and confirm it by email.

Note: If your story has been downloaded by library readers prior to deletion, we cannot retrieve those copies. We will do our best to minimise what persists.

9. Your Rights

Under applicable privacy laws (including the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and, where applicable, the GDPR), you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request full deletion of your data and account
• Object to or restrict certain processing
• Withdraw consent at any time for consent-based processing (including library publication)
• Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
• Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) or your national data protection authority

10. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, strict access controls, and regular security reviews. Story content is accessible only to you and authorised platform staff — not to other users unless you choose to publish. Where possible, Australian users' data is hosted on Australian infrastructure.

11. Cookies

We use essential cookies to operate the platform (session management, security) and optional analytics cookies to understand how the site is used. You can manage cookie preferences in your browser settings. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

12. Children

Our platform is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us immediately.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after that date constitutes acceptance.
