These terms govern your use of the yourlifeinbooks platform. We've written them to be as clear and fair as possible — because we believe in transparency.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form an agreement between you and yourlifeinbooks PTY LTD ("Your Life In Books", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using our platform, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
Your Life In Books provides an AI-assisted storytelling and publishing service that enables users to create, publish and share autobiographies and works of fiction. We also operate a community library of published stories and associated community features including events and subscriptions.
You must be 18 years of age or older to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us immediately of any unauthorised use.
✦ Your story is yours. The copyright in any story, autobiography or narrative you create on this platform belongs to you — the story originator. yourlifeinbooks PTY LTD does not claim ownership of your content.
By publishing your story in the yourlifeinbooks library, you grant yourlifeinbooks PTY LTD a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, display, distribute and promote your story through the platform for the purpose of providing the service. This licence does not transfer your copyright.
Publishing your story in the Your Life In Books library is entirely optional and requires a separate, explicit act of consent at the point of publication. This consent cannot be pre-ticked, assumed, or bundled into your account agreement.
When you choose to publish, you will be asked to confirm the following before your story goes live:
You may withdraw from library publication at any time. Your story will be removed within 30 days of your request. Readers who have already downloaded it retain their copy.
If you choose to keep your story private, it will not be published in the library and will only be accessible to you and any people you explicitly invite.
You retain full copyright in your story at all times. Your Life In Books PTY LTD makes no claim to ownership of your work and does not position itself as a production company.
If your story is adapted into any other medium or ancillary product including film, television, theatre, games, audio drama or any format not yet invented, the following equity share applies to any adaptation deal you enter into:
These shares are payable on any adaptation deal concluded during the term of your agreement with the platform, whether or not the platform was directly involved in brokering the deal. You are free to pursue adaptations independently and there is no obligation to involve Your Life In Books PTY LTD in negotiations.
Net revenue from all sales, downloads, licensing and adaptations through the platform is distributed as follows:
Where no human writer is engaged, the writer's 2% is divided equally between you and yourlifeinbooks PTY LTD.
By submitting content to the platform, you confirm that your content does not:
Our Quality Control Agent reviews all stories before publication for ethical compliance. We reserve the right to decline to publish content that does not meet these standards.
⚠️ You, the story originator, bear full legal responsibility for the accuracy of factual claims in your published story. yourlifeinbooks PTY LTD operates as a publishing platform and, like social media platforms, passes defamation liability to the content creator. By publishing, you indemnify yourlifeinbooks against any claims arising from your story's content.
Our QC Agent will flag names and claims that carry defamation risk, but this review is not a legal guarantee. We strongly encourage you to change the names of private individuals where appropriate and to take independent legal advice if you are uncertain.
When you engage a Human Touch writer, you enter into a working relationship with that individual facilitated by yourlifeinbooks. The writer agrees to our writer terms, including confidentiality obligations regarding your personal story content. The writer earns a 2% royalty on net revenue from your book in perpetuity.
Package fees are charged at the time of sign-up. Our standard refund policy allows a full refund within 7 days of purchase if no draft has been delivered. Once a first draft has been delivered, we offer a partial credit toward another package. Subscription fees are charged annually and are non-refundable after 30 days.
Free library membership allows unlimited on-platform reading. Premium subscriptions ($40/year) include eBook downloads and event access. Subscriptions auto-renew annually unless cancelled before the renewal date.
You may close your account at any time. When you close your account you have two choices:

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that materially breach these Terms, with written notice where possible.
If your story has not been completed and published within 2 years of account creation, we reserve the right to close your account and end any ongoing subscription or hosting cost associated with it. We will give you at least 30 days' written notice to the email address on file before doing so, and the opportunity to export your interview transcript, draft chapters and any Structured Life Profile data before closure. This clause does not apply once your book has been published, and does not shorten any royalty entitlements already accrued.
Your Life In Books PTY LTD is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability to you for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales, unless otherwise required by the laws of your country of residence.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after that date constitutes acceptance.
